A woman trying to rebuild her life.

Kennedy is doing all she can to escape, to prove that she’s not the monster her father was. A simple life of peace and service is all she needs.

A man haunted by a past he can’t forget.

Cain has buried his demons under layers of control and success. The only thing he needs is his company and his solitude. Certainly not a woman with captivating green eyes filled with ghosts so similar to his own.

He’s a reminder of the life she’s left behind. And she’s a threat to his tightly guarded control. As sparks fly between them, they discover that what they might need most is each other.

But with pasts like never know when darkness might descend.

I love this whole series and can’t wait to see what this author has next for me to get into. I finished all four books in a week’s time.
  • Sweet, Beautiful and Heartbreaking Journey

    By Izzibear
I loved Kennedy and Cain’s story. They’re two beautiful people that are badly bent but not completely broken. Honestly, they’re perfect for each other. Their struggles to overcome the pasts that haunt them just broke my heart. Neither one wanted to fall but the pull between them was undeniable. Little by little a tentative friendship blossoms and before long love takes hold. Slowly it starts to fill the cracks and glue their shattered bits back together. There were quite a few unexpected twists in their story. I especially loved the unconditional love from their friends. The people that both Kennedy and Cain have come to call family. I would definitely recommend this book and if you choose to read it I’d also recommend tissues.
  • I want to move to Sutter Lake!

Ms. Cowels has done it again! Beautifully Broken Control is another fab entry in the Sutter Lake series where each book is yet another 5 star entry into a great series with wonderful characters and a solid storyline. Cain and Kennedy are each fighting the sins of their family. Kennedy is looking to escape the sins of her father, hoping that she can start over in a place that will value her for who she is and not who her family was and what they did. Cain is looking to forget his mother and sister. They come together amid wonderful friends who were each featured in earlier books in the series ... but the writing is so good that you can start with this book and go back to the start. WARNING! If this is your first intro to this series, you can start with Beautifully Broken Control because the writing is so good that Ms. Cowels describes the characters so well ....but you’re going to want to clear your calendar and nurse that “cold” that has you on the couch all week as you binge read!!! Hahahahaha This story has a sub plot amid the romance with a bit of suspense ... Cain’s company is being sabatoged by those closest to him and Kennedy is being pursued by someone as well .. the strange incidents just don’t add up. If you’re looking for a new author ... or are familiar with Ms. Cowels and are looking for your next read, look no further. Download BBC immediately! I received an ARC. This is my honest review. HOLY CANNOLI THIS STORY! I honestly can’t decide if this book is my favorite out of this entire series, but I felt so deeply with this book and the storyline and couldn’t get enough! Cain’s past has caused him to be the hard man that he’s become and vows to let nothing get through the walls he’s built. Kennedy is essentially in hiding, attempting to start her life over and stay in the shadows while making it on her own after the tragic events her family caused. She’s vowed to stay away from people with money and power, two things Cain has. At first meet, the sparks fly, but Kennedy is quick to shut them down but Cain is determined to get to know her and what she’s all about. Amidst all of that, accidents start happening around Kennedy and places/people she interacts with, nobody realizing that she’s the actual target. Once Cain figures it out, Kennedy is kidnapped and it’s crazy to find out who’s behind everything! The mystery of who’s behind everything I definitely did not see coming, but it kept me on the edge of my seat trying to guess who it was! I cannot wait to see who is next in this series after loving this book so much! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
  • Beautiful in all the ways.

I felt the emotions within the first two pages! Catherine Cowles was able to make me feel the powerful emotions that Kennedy went through by the 5th page. The book was powerful! Two souls that were defined by their past and yet it didn't break them, if anything it showed just how much darkness can bring beauty. I couldn't put this book down! I want to be strong and graceful like Kennedy and Cain is everything a woman could want, he is the definition of an alpha hero and a good man. You won't want to miss what I feel is this authors best work yet!
  • The best book hangover ever!

I truly savored reading this one knowing it was the end to Sutter Lake. I will say this was freaking amazing!!! I loved Cain and Kennedy!! I was shocked by the fact it has an age gap in it! Didn’t bother me one bit, but a pleasant troupe type surprise. For those looking for their troupe niche.... this is a small town, slow burn, age gap and romantic suspense. So freaking good!! Both Cain and Kennedy come from a dark and troubled path and are trying to start fresh in Sutter Lake. Catherine Cowles can write a story that truly pulls at your heart strings and absolutely drag you into the story. This was beautiful and I was obsessed from the beginning. “ But we can’t erase our pasts. They make us who we are. And, often, it’s the ugly parts that lead to the most beauty.” A beautiful ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Read that shows us that beauty sometimes comes from the ugliest pasts.

This amazing story is the fourth in the Sutter Lake series. We meet old friends and a few new ones, but from the first to the fourth they are equally entertaining. Kennedy Barrington was a privileged child, loved by her mom and dad and brother. But one day her perfect life fell apart, and it would never be the same. She headed to Portland to find some peace, changing her name to Kennedy Charles, but she decided big city life wasn’t for her and landed in Sutter Lake. She works in the Tea Kettle with Jensen, and lives above the shop in a tiny apartment. She also teaches Ballet, and volunteers in a shelter called Hope House. Thanks to her friendship with Jensen she has been heartily accepted by Walker, Jensen’s husband and Tucker, Jensen’s brother and his fiancé Taylor. They include her in all family things and keep her under their protection. Cain Hale is a third brother of Walker and Tucker, they met on college and formed impenetrable bonds. He started a security company from the ground up, which is extremely successful, but has found out his company is threatened and it looks like from the inside out. He heads to Sutter Lake to think and be among his closest friends. Cain had a tragic childhood and being around his best friends helps calm him. After meeting Kennedy or Kenz as her nickname is now, he senses that she is not telling the truth. He is afraid she is threatening his friends, their lovers and their lives. Kennedy, is taken aback by very tall dark and handsome Cain, but she see’s him as a rich, spoiled man throwing around his money. As they get to know each other better, find an attraction growing and Cain has become her protector. She’s not terribly happy about it, but after a crazy accident, she decides to let him in. The romance is slow, sexy and satisfying. The danger that stalks them is relentless, and Cain must fight to save his company. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but I think reading them in order is much more enjoyable. Highly recommend this very enjoyable romance.

Wow! Catherine did not disappoint with this one! What we have come to know and love with her previous stories can be seen/read with this one as well. I loved every page of this one. (Hint - join her newsletter for a bonus scene.) Kennedy is on the run from someone or something and Cain wants to know the who and/or the why. He wants to protect her and spoil her. He even claims to know someone who can loan her a car since she bikes everywhere. Ya... he doesn’t know anyone like that... He just wants her to be safe. And this is after he barely knows her. Kennedy is attracted to him but doesn’t believe she deserves happiness. Both of them have been hurt badly in the past. Can these two heal each other? I highly recommend this one!!
  • I never want to leave Sutter Lake!

Beautifully Broken Control... what a book! Like all of Catherine’s books, it was wonderfully written. The story was so good. I tried to slow down my reading because I didn’t want it to end but I also had to know what was happening! #bookwormproblems I’m so sad Sutter Lake is over but I can’t wait to see what Catherine has up her sleeve next!
  • Couldn’t put it down

This is Catherine Cowles’s best book yet! I never wanted this book to end and savored every second of it. Cain and Kennedy were so beautifully matched up with their broken backgrounds they were hiding from but the present forced it to be dealt with. Both are set in their ways because of their pasts and I loved their journey to finding a way to trust and compromise to make their relationship work. Kennedy and Cain both tugged at my heart strings and I felt everything they went through and by the end of the book was wishing for it not to be over. This book can be read as a stand alone but you get the full effect of it if you read all the Sutter Lake books before hand.
