Description

Anxious People - A Comprehensive Summary A bank robber rushes into a cashless bank on the day before New Year’s Eve. After her failed attempt to get money, she tries to escape from the police so she runs into the nearest building, up the stairs, and into an apartment. The apartment is currently for sale, and there is a viewing going on there, so she meets the seven prospective buyers and the real estate agent, and she takes them hostage. As they spend time together in the apartment they all get to know each other. Ten years before the hostage drama, a man jumped off a bridge and killed himself because he had financial problems and he could not get a loan from the bank. Zara, one of the hostages, who runs a bank, met that man before: she was the one who told him that he cannot get any money. She received a letter from him after the suicide, but she has not opened it, because she felt so bad about the incident. She has been carrying the letter with her for ten years. Ro and Julia are a young couple, who are expecting a baby and try to find a home for themselves, which is why they went to the apartment showing. They are full of fear and insecurity, they are afraid of not being good enough for each other and the baby. Anna-Lena and Roger have been married for many years. They have grown-up children, but no grandchildren. Roger used to be an architect but he gave up his career to be with the children, while Anna-Lena could work. She had a very successful career. Now they have a new project: they buy apartments, renovate them, and then sell them. Estelle is an eighty-seven year-old woman, who is quite lonely. She had a husband, Knut, who died a few years ago and she misses him very much. Now she is looking for an apartment for her daughter. It turns out that there is one more person in the apartment who is not a prospective buyer: Lennart was hiding in the toilet. Lennart is an actor who was hired by Anna-Lena. He hid in the toilet without his clothes, wearing a rabbit-head. He makes money by manipulating apartment prices. Sometimes he plays the role of the drunk, loud neighbor, now he had to ruin the viewing in the ridiculous rabbit costume. The real estate agent was hiding in the closet above the ceiling. She was there when she heard that the bank robber arrived, and she was scared so she decided to stay there until the prospective buyers found her. While they were in the apartment, the bank robber told them her story. Her husband left her because he had an affair with her boss. Her boss did not want to have an uncomfortable situation at their workplace so she was fired. She could not find a job, she lost her home because their house was officially her husband’s property, and without a stable home and job, she was about to lose her children. So she wanted to steal some money, but not too much. She just wanted to steal enough to pay the rent. After she had told the story, the people she held hostage started feeling sorry for her and they decided to help her. Estelle reveals that she is the owner of the apartment and she had a good relationship with the neighbor, so she has the keys to the apartment next door. They hid the bank robber there, and when the police questioned them they were unhelpful and they pretended to be complete idiots. Jack and his father Jim were both police officers. They were responsible for the hostage case. Jim was the one who went up to the apartment to talk with the bank robber. He also felt sorry for her so he decided to help. After the hostage drama and the interviews, he told Jack that he helped the bank robber. Since nobody got hurt, they did not pursue the case.
