London, 1666

Amethyst Goldsmith makes dazzling jewelry, but her future isn’t nearly as bright as the pieces she creates. Though custom dictates she wed her father’s apprentice, her heart rebels against the match. In mere days Amy will be condemned to a stifling, loveless marriage, and she sees no way out—until the devastating fire of 1666 sweeps through London, and tragedy lands her in the arms of a dashing nobleman who knows a diamond in the rough when he sees it…

Colin Chase, the Earl of Greystone, has his future all figured out. He’s restoring his crumbling castle and estate to its former glory, and the key to its completion is his rich bride-to-be. But the Great Fire lays waste to his plans, saddling him with trouble—in the form of a lowly shopkeeper’s daughter with whom he’s most inconveniently falling in love...

  • A stereotypical romance

    By Kiwidaughter
This book is everything people expect a romance to be, which is either a compliment or not depending on your perspective. Romances can be deeply written, with lush prose and fully realized characters who have some complexity, or they can be the kind of trope that earns the romance genre the reputation it has. This book leans to the latter. The characters are very one dimensional. The story , though decently written, is without substance, even though the characters themselves experience events that are substantial. As a genre , there is no need to constantly reinforce the reputation Romance has for being, well - vapid.

  • True love

Great love story, but there were times to me to much rambling. When Amy was kidnapped I finally skipped most of it and several more chapters and still didn’t feel I had missed anything.

A really good read. The story held my attention with the way it flowed. Loved the humor. Adored the parts where she didn’t overwhelm us with “draggy” details during long separations.
  • Entertaining

Lauren Royal has a true gem in Amethyst. The story is riveting. The characters are so well written you wish you could meet them. The time period is richly documented and true to history. Superb read from start to finish. Highly recommend.

This was another hidden gems of a book that I have found through various emails about books. I loved it and could not put it down! Definitely an “adult” book, but the story is even better than the bedroom scenes (and I love me some romance!) Good read! Thank you for writing this Lauren Royal!

I don't usually read romance. This was steamy with believable characters. It was great at explaining the time period and the customers of the time. Definitely recommend

I liked this book a great deal. It was charming and held my attention. I was thinking it a long story, but did not mind, because nothing was left out. The characters were real, and I enjoyed meeting them.
